4 Reasons Why I Only Wear Barefoot Shoes

I hope everyone is having a great 4th of July!! It is 94 degrees where I live in St. Pete, so I am choosing to spend most of the day in my air conditioned home, sippin’ on some coconut water. I had to pop on here to share some exciting news: I am now an ambassador for my favorite shoe brand, Flux Footwear! That means that I will get first access to new products, I will help them share updates about the brand, and of course I will have my own promo code.

Promo code or not, I am obsessed with the Flux shoes. Actually, my whole family is obsessed with Flux shoes. My mom, dad, two brothers, and I went out to dinner a couple of weeks ago, and WE ALL SHOWED UP IN THE SAME FLUX SHOES. If you had told me in the past that someday I would have to coordinate outfits with my dad, I would not have believed you lol.

Now let’s get specific with the benefits:

1. Good For Foot Health: The Flux shoes are designed to mimic the experience of walking or running without footwear, hence the “barefoot” label. They are designed to provide minimal support, which allows feet to move more naturally. As a result, your feet will get stronger, and you may experience improved balance, stability, and sensory feedback.

These shoes have zero drop, flexible soles, which allow your feet to interact with the environment more authentically. I love being able to actually feel the different surfaces on which I am walking. For example, when I go hiking in my Flux shoes, I try to step on every rock, and it feels like a massage for my feet. Providing our feet with this kind of stimulus is incredibly important for our posture. Our feet are our direct connection between our body and the ground, so our feet use these sensory signals to tell the rest of the body how to position itself in space. It’s like our feet provide the roadmap for how the rest of the body should act.  (Viseux , F. 2020, NLH)

2. Comfortable: The shoes also have a wide toe box, which means your toes have enough room to spread. I think that this is the feature that makes them so comfortable to wear. You don’t realize how much other athletic shoes squish your feet until you try Fluxes on. It’s like moving your feet from a studio apartment to a two bedroom.

3. Aesthetics: To add onto all of this, the shoes look good. I get so many compliments wearing these, most people not even knowing that they are barefoot shoes. Here are the two styles that I own:

  • Trainers: I like to call the Trainers my “everyday” shoe. I wear my white ones with everything from summer dresses, to my lululemon leggings.

  • Runners: The Runners are obviously more of a running shoe. I have the bright pink ones currently, and I cannot wait to get them in more colors.

4. Easy To Clean: The shoes are machine washable. My white Trainers look brand new after one wash! Just please, please do not machine dry them. Let them air dry.

Where to start with Flux Footwear…

You can’t go wrong with any of their products, but if I had to recommend only one, I would say the white or black Trainers. I love that I can wear them both working out and out to dinner. You may even be incentivized to buy two pairs because of their current 4th of July sale – it’s buy one, get one 30% off. If you need a bit more time to think about it, you can always use my promo code NIX10 for 10% off.

Finally, if you’ve never worn barefoot shoes before, the Flux team recommends easing into the product. Start with a quarter-mile walk, and see how your feet feel the next day. If your feet are used to typical, highly-cushioned athletic shoes, you may need to gradually build foot strength before wearing them for longer distances and more.

Please let me know how you like the shoes, and stay tuned for more barefoot shoe content!

XOXO,
